It's a hot Hong Kong summer in 1979. The milk tea probably doesn't cut it when your English and carrying heavy cameras, film and lenses.

Herbert Smith, then in his 60s, arrived from the UK to take photographs - an amateur photographer, but one with a passion greater than most. He ventured out into the streets at night and day, capturing the contrast of city life on Kodachrome and Agfachrome film.

The result is a homage to this trip. Five hand curated, restored and printed photographs of neon lit streets and a careful eye.

These images are selected from a journey the photographer made in 1972 to Canada and Alaska. He travelled through the west of Canada to Anchorage, stopping at small gas stations en route.

This is the focus of this collection. Nostalgic, slightly odd snapshots of urban life, punctuated by the unrivalled colours of Kodachrome film.

These photographs lay totally untouched since they were taken, 55 years ago and are the first time they have been shared.

Four limited prints from the last drop of 2025, taken in the summer of 1982 on my Grandfather Herbert's only trip to Japan, lovingly restored by hand from Agfachrome and Kodachrome film. This edition has now sold out, so stay tuned for the first drop of 2026 in January!
